 | To
provide a reassessment the artefacts, data and interpretations from the
Yewden Villa collection and other Romano-British artefacts from the Valley. |
 | To
locate the collection of human bones from the 1912 excavation (apparently
not interred) for a full analysis (sex, age, diet, health, genetic ancestry,
etc). |
 | To
reassess the position of the Hambleden
Valley
in Romano-British regional terms. |
 | To
utilise local knowledge and locate finds in the collections of the
present-day local population for recording and evaluation. |
 | To
establish the spatial extent of Romano-British activity in the valley by
finds collection during field walking and metal detecting (and as a spin-off
artefacts from other eras will be recorded and collected). |
 | To
verify the form and layout of the Mill End villa by geophysics, and
investigate other features which may surround it, providing 3D imaging where
this is possible. |
 | To
determine the size, shape and extent of archaeological structures that lie
within the valley (in addition to the two known villas) by using
non-intrusive means (geophysics). 3D imaging techniques will be used
for more precise detail. |
 | To
identify the inter-relationship between the abundant archaeological features
shown by crop marks and between the known villa sites of Yewden and Mill
End. |
 | Using
the results from all above, to assess the function, status, professions, and
role played by the Romano-British population in the valley. |
